On time, on budget… these are the typical metrics that implementations are judged by. These can not be met if you do not have a well thought-out plan. Identify all the key stakeholders, identify bottlenecks (period closes, IT freezes, holidays, etc). Make sure that you have executive buy in to remove any bottlenecks that might occur.
Future-Proof: Design a solution with the end state in mind, then implement in logical phases. Harmonize the business process while ensuring you have the ability to localize the solution based on country regulations, and accommodate small modifications by Business unit. A well thought out design will accelerate user adoption and lower the overall implementation costs
Admit you don’t know what you don’t know: Rely on Subject Matter Experts on topics that your organization has less experience in. This can include Integration, Change Management, Best Practices, etc
