The Role

The Director of Procurement Performance (aka PPM) is responsible for internal planning and supporting the business operations with executing both internal and client programs. This role possesses experience in developing, building, and managing customer/client relationships, operational excellence and strong leadership skills. This role requires detail orientation and willingness to get directly involved with discovery, planning and execution tied to our client engagements. This role provides strategic and operational input to client management issues and assists in troubleshooting solutions and removing obstacles and is responsible for working with internal resources/departments to develop and propose opportunities for improvement both internally and with clients.

Day to Day You Will

Role Summary:

  • Operational Management: demonstrate excellence in procurement, project and change management, including exceptional engagement management and consulting leadership, including development and management of client roadmaps. Ensure that the business practices have access to leading delivery artifacts and tools for both internal and client-facing objectives.
  • Program Management Expertise: personify as Velocity’s resident program and project management authority for any/all aspects of the of our procurement service offerings, including the comprehensive understanding of roles and responsibilities, methodologies, process and procedure, training requirements, project management tools, program design and staffing strategy.
  • Personnel Utilization: support practice leaders with recruiting and developing professional and technical services talent that is aligned to the delivery of procurement services. Support the use of consistent resource staffing and delivery methodologies to ensure uniformity and consistency in all service engagements.
  • Knowledge Management: as it pertains to supply chain advisory, procurement consulting, and change management, maintain up to date knowledge of all best practices, innovations, solutions, competitors and updates across all practice areas through customer dialog and regular proactive connection to industry research and trends. Work closely with practice leaders and the sales function to ensure we have the right offerings and capabilities that meet client and market expectations.
  • Sales Support: support business growth through proactive participation in the sales process including contributing to proposal creation, assisting with the preparation of customer presentations, and drafting Statements of Work (SOWs). Support the strategy, delivery and change management design aspects in order to fit clients’ needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic:
    • Effectively communicate and enable project management delivery to practice leads, project managers, sponsors, team members, and other stakeholders in a clear and concise fashion
    • Develop best practices, techniques, and tools for project planning, execution, project management, ongoing milestone/deliverable tracking, communication, and key performance metrics
    • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise new project team leads, team members, and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
    • Coordinates program management planning meetings with Practice Leaders, Stakeholders, and Executives
    • Supports leadership in developing program and project management strategy 
  • Sales & Marketing:
    • Working with practice leaders, interact with clients to understand their needs at a program management and client success level
    • Leverage opportunities to understand and provide inputs / direction on a client’s roadmap to provide mindshare and visibility towards realization
    • Share feedback with the Practice Leaders and Executives in terms of client’s focus areas
    • Analyze the value add from the engagement perspective for program retention and additional areas within the engagement where we can grow
    • Responsible for ensuring that related SOWs include the required program and project management content (process, procedure, tools)
  •  Operational:
    • Oversee project portfolios; monitor and review project progress and timelines; adjust schedules and budgets as needed; and identify and resolve issues to ensure project success
    • Ensure practice leaders, project managers and associated staff perform the duties and responsibilities according to established best practices
    • Determine frequency and content of status reports from project managers, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas/mitigate project risks
    • Communicate project management standards and techniques to the appropriate training staff
    • Accept and assess status reports, change requests, and requirements documentation to ensure smooth project progression
    • Conduct project postmortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
    • Establish client-facing oversight protocols as it relates to the discover, nurture and grow aspects of existing client expansion
    • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within and between various project teams and client teams
  • Change Management:
    • Validate external changes (industry / competitor reactions) and engage with the executives and practice leaders to track and ensure that the engagement deliverables are relevant
    • Interact with internal and client stakeholders to resolve escalations for any change / control initiative
    • Provide support to the individual Project Manager(s) in case of client-initiated change / internally identified change, as required
    • Communicate potential ‘significant change’, that are identified, to the stakeholder community
    • Contribute to the contract and SOW change order process and procedure
  • Governance & Performance:
    • Support and contribute to our strategy and expansion of our various lines of business while nurturing existing partnerships with clients and technology providers
    • Establish formal program management measurement, including metrics and KPIs
    • Ensure achievement of program goals and metrics.
    • Provide insights on cost cutting for delivery activities.
    • Be a Velocity ambassador and articulate to potential partners the innovation and value of our services
    • Contribute to the day-to-day relationship management of practice leaders and project managers

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • At least 15 years’ experience in the Procurement, Supply Chain or ERP Solutions industry
  • Domain experience in most of the following: supply chain management, procurement, strategic sourcing, and procurement operations
  • Proven record of supporting and/or managing the implementation of procurement improvement projects
  • Adaptive to change, having comfort in fast-changing work environment
  • Provide structured and creative analysis to identify performance improvement opportunities
  • Define and carry out project plans and modeling architecture with minimal supervision
  • Articulate key messages clearly and explain concepts to both advanced audiences and Executive level audiences
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication (including presentation) skills are required
  • Prior consulting and/or procurement management experience required
  • A proven record of excellence in procurement maturity analysis and design
  • Experience gained within another large professional services organization
  • Established networking skills in a relevant industry
