Director of Procurement Advisory Consulting
The Role
Velocity seeks a Director of Procurement Advisory to lead our growing US-based Advisory Practice, emphasizing operations, supply chain, and sourcing & procurement. Candidates must have 5+ years’ experience as management consultants, including experience in a project manager capacity. Preferred focus areas include procurement, supply chain, strategic sourcing, systems implementation, process redesign, business intelligence, or other areas that drive operational effectiveness and efficiency. As a growing organization Velocity requires its consulting staff to contribute to and lead internal company development initiatives. Consultants may also be asked to support business development and sales activities.
Candidates must be self-starters with proven positions of leadership. Mental agility and the ability to learn are vital. The ability to take on new challenges and succeed beyond one’s comfort zone is required.
Day to Day You Will
The Director of Procurement Advisory Consulting will:
- Act as an incisive, effective creative thinker bringing business and consulting experience to client engagements and apply expert skills in communication, research, problem-solving, and analysis to client work.
- Takes on significant responsibilities, working closely with clients and making a major contribution to every engagement, including leading smaller engagements.
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise related to the operating environment of major business functions.
- Leverages business context to analyze and improve complex business models.
- Explains and reviews analysis/findings with team members and client personnel.
- Assesses presenting problem with appropriate project scope and decomposes problem to identify root causes.
- Manages client expectations and project scope actively with an approach designed to engender project success and extend goodwill.
- Identifies implications of proposed solutions on people, processes, technology, strategy and structure.
- Leads Velocity and external resources on both small and large-scale client engagements.
- Manages hands-on, utilizing detailed knowledge of the engagement situation while maintaining focus on the larger context and overall project view.
- Builds an effective business case for proposed solutions.
- Converts existing Velocity engagements, client relationships, and goodwill into additional potential opportunities.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have
The Director of Procurement Advisory Consulting should have:
- Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in economics, business administration, accounting, industrial engineering, information technology, or comparable experience
- Minimum 5+ years’ progressive experience across various sourcing, procurement, and/ or supply chain roles, ideally with previous consulting and/or project management experience
- Demonstrated expertise in any of the following functions: Procure-to-Pay Process Transformation, Supplier Relationship Management, Supply Chain Strategy/Planning, Procurement Organization Design, Change Management, Finance Transformation, Procurement Technology Acquisition, Procurement Program and/or Project Management
- Experience in applying best practices in the areas of Sourcing & Procurement, Supply Chain, and Operations
- Experience in sourcing strategy definition, category management, functional requirements gathering, process definition, process harmonization, & process optimization
- eProcurement experience desirable (e.g. Basware, Coupa, iValua, Jaggaer, SAP Ariba, Zycus, etc.)
- Experience in identifying business challenges and deriving improvement opportunities
- Strong project management and communication skills. Able to present complex issues in a concise and meaningful manner to senior executives
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a large number of activities in a dynamic environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and relevant experience
- Client-oriented work ethic and excellent international teamworking skills
- Strong drive to go above and beyond to drive client, company, and personal success
- Ability and openness to travel up to 20% of the time
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without limitation
- Experience gained within another large professional services organization
- Established networking skills in a relevant industry
